Sweetpeas and Sheep

Sheep friendly yarns and rugs, lovingly grown in Wales

A little about us

We farm a native and rare breed fleece flock in the rolling valleys of Mid Wales. We’re vegetarians and our sheep are part of the family – and will live their natural lives out on the farm with us, never sold for meat.

Early summer our sheep are shorn. This is done carefully by experience shearers, and means that the sheep do not overheat and lowers risk of damage from flies. Making and selling yarns, rugs, cushions and more from the fleeces the sheep share with us every year mean that they don’t go to waste, and help to cover the cost of looking after the sheep over the year ahead.

Farming for nature and the environment is important to us. We do not use pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilisers on our meadows, and keep a low stocking rate. Our rare and native breed Boreray and Hebridean sheep are great conservation grazers – smaller than more modern breeds, and more gentle on the grass. By day, I am a researcher scientist working in climate resilience, and this helps to inform everything we do.
